Over the years, ever since its publication in the early 2000s, my most infamous book has been Street Sword: Practical Use of the Long Blade for Self-Defense. I wrote that book because I heard searched for a practical guide on how to wield a sword for some time without finding one. I decided to create what I’d failed to find to that point.
Tactical Knives magazine gave it a good review… but the combination of the silly title Paladin hung on it, plus the incongruous cover (of me standing in the woods) guaranteed that it was a sight gag if you hadn’t read it. It was featured in a variety of publications, made fun of by Chris Hardwick on Comedy Central’s @Midnight, headlined on The Worst Things For Sale, and became enduringly pop-culture famous in its own, small way.
And people keep buying it.
While Street Sword is not my bestseller (that’s my book on CPAP machines, because life is not without a sense of humor), it is second-best, and the book from which I still make the most money on Amazon. People have begged me, literally written to me to plead with me, to write a sequel to it. They’ve done so for years.
And now I have.
